A special show today as the programme celebrates the 3rd anniversary of the show, and everyone is suitably dressed for the occasion. Andy has the honour of playing today, and there is a birthday cake candle twist for the show as well. Andy gets off to a steady start with the offers slowly improving over the early rounds, then at the end of the 3rd round the Banker kicks in his Candle Twist, where he will allow Andy to pick 1 candle if he deals the £10,000 and if he finds the gold candle then the offered will be doubled, but Andy declines this. At the end of round 4 the offer rises to £14,000 again with 1 candle choice if Andy deals, but he again declines the offer. A sting in the tail at the end of round 5 sees the offer drop to £9,000 but the Banker would allow Andy to choose 2 candles to find the gold one to double his offer, but yet again Andy plays on. In the final round Andy avoids the £250,000 and sets up a dramatic finish, which gets an offer of £50,000 and choice of 2 candles if he deals. Andy takes this offer with the potential to increase his win to £100,000 by finding the gold candle! Noel plays out the game first and reveals that Andy had the top prize in his box! Andy then chooses 2 candles from the cake, but fails to find the gold one and so goes home with his £50,000.

The £50,000 offer was so crap. £250,000 and £10,000 left and only 50k. The cake gimmick made it easy for the banker to pitch the offers low.
xxxxx.cable.ubr06.perr.blueyonder.co.ukcan someone tell me whos game it was on sunday please lol i missed it. ill watch the full episode on channel4.co.uk/watchonline so if ne1s missed a show watch the full episode on there
xxxxx.range86-150.btcentralplus.comIt was Jenn's game!!!!!!!!!! (had to use !! as it didnt let me submit a comment less than 20 characters long)
xxxxx.cable.ubr06.perr.blueyonder.co.ukThat last offer wasn't £50,000, it was £83,333 if you think about it. And I'm sure I wasn't the only one who thought Andy's reactions to the box openings were incredibly over-dramatic, especially when he rolled around on the floor after the last box of the last round.
xxxxx.as43234.netHuh? How was it 83k? I dont get it...or are you referring to his potentail 100k win?
xxxxx.cable.ubr06.perr.blueyonder.co.ukpotential* sorry for the spelling error
xxxxx.cable.ubr06.perr.blueyonder.co.ukBy accepting the offer, he had a 2 in 3 chance of winning £100,000 rather than £50,000. Therefore he was either going to win £50,000, £100,000 or £100,000. The average of those three amounts is £83,333. Sounds more complicated than it is.
xxxxx.as43234.neti get what u mean now james but what do u mean he'd either win 50k 100k or 100k dont mean u mean 50k 100k or 250k that bit confused me i know 50k 100k or 100k is average of 83,333 though
xxxxx.range86-150.btcentralplus.comThe offer included the opportunity to choose two out of three candles. Therefore there was a 2 in 3 chance of winning £100,000 and a one in three chance of winning £50,000 (average £83,333) IF he said Deal. Otherwise he would have won one of the two remaining amounts on the board (£10,000 or £250,000) as normal. As you can gather, it's difficult to explain this in words.
xxxxx.as43234.netOh I understand, didnt look at it that way. Thanks for that James! Well put!
xxxxx.cable.ubr06.perr.blueyonder.co.ukI usually like big winners and people who are brave but he absolutley got on nerves. I mean come on rolling around and crying in front of thousands of viewers is pathetic. Not to be harsh or anything but they shouldn't bring up sad stories (like when he mentioned about box 20)because it always puts them off in the game and gives the banker an advantage. This was for me the worst anniversary ever. Even worse than last years, 1st anniversary was the best cuz we had Jon Culshaw.
xxxxx.bb.sky.comAlso i agree with dond comment £50,000 was a rubbish offer, i know he offered the two candels but even i wouldn't accept that. If he had just offered £100,000 in the first place i would totally understand that. Plus i have seen quite a few games in the past with a £10k/250k climax and they were offered much more. For example Claudine was offered £107,000 and David from the 1st anniversary was offered £70,000
xxxxx.bb.sky.comI hated this game,I didn't see the point of the whole cake and candle thing because it meant when he came to five box he had a one in 3 chance of getting 18,000 and the chances were he'd go home with 9,000. Leaving with 18,000 still would have been really poor for conventional play considering the board. And then 50,000 when it came to 2 box,100,000 offered would be fair if he was playing without the cake and the cake gave him only a one in 2 chance of getting it. I don't know but I think it was a real disadvantage to him , last years birthday game was much better
xxxxx.dynamic.dsl.as9105.comdid anybody happen to notice how the final 5 in this game was exactly the same as the final 5 from the 1st birthday show. He also ended up with the same final 2 but got offered £70,000 instead.
xxxxx.lei3.cable.ntl.comYes that was David Jones on the 1st anniversary show on October 29th 2006. His game was miles, miles better than this crappy game. His final offer might have been low but still not as low as Andy's and at least David didn't have a sob story and was a positive guy. Jon Culshaw was there too which made it entertaining, ahhh those were the day.
