Synopsis:

Last game of the Easter specials today, and Matty steps up for the challenge. He straight away asks for a box swap, but the banker declines, but then does allow it after the first round, and jumps at the chance and makes the swap. Next round Matty receives a real money offer and it's a fantastic £20,000, but Matty ploughs on. He gets a good round, but the banker sticks with £20,000, although this time if Matty deals and can pick out the good egg he will increase it to £35,000, Matty decides to play on. It's a nightmare next round for Matty as his board collapses, and his offer plummets to £1,717. Another bad round follows and he can't even improve his luck when he gets the chance to get an offer after each box, as he chooses the wrong Easter egg! The just gets worse when Matty ends up with a final pairing of 1p and 50p, and then reveals 1p in his box to join the ever increasing 1p club.

No he did not Mazza! Matty was a great guy and a whole lot of fun - it just happened that his game turned into a nightmare. He still had a great board after he'd turned down a potential £35k and he didn't do anything wrong throughout - it was simply a case of Fate rearing its ugly head and the big money disappearing quickly after that. And don't forget he donated one of his kidneys to his brother.

Well, I wouldn't say 'never ever' swap - Morris and Kirsty missed out on being quarter-millionaires by not swapping, while Maria did swap and it won her £100,000. But at the end of the day, it is a game of chance.

I sorta agree with Mazza, but not in that cruel sense of going away with 1p, but you deserve to take home whatever it is you win with the game/board you have. If you pass up a deal and then the game crashes, you have to live up to that choice - it's what you picked, so that's what you get. I think it just seemed like he was so devastated at the end of going away with 1p, when at the beginning of every single game, that's a 1/22 possibly for whoever plays to walk away with it - you know that full well when you start playing. Play the game, and stick true to what you want to do - not saying it isn't disappointing to win only 1p, but to act so devastated and surprized at the end of the game like that is a bit strange - I'm sure thousands of people apply and never even get on the show (plus I'm sure, in the cosmic sense, he's got a warm bed, food, etc. - most other people aren't even that fortunate!).

Seth, when you consider Matty's background and thus how emotionally charged this game was going to be, it's not really all that strange that he was so devastated at the end. Mind you, it wasn't the easiest thing to watch.

Even though he did let a good offer (20k with the chance to increase to increase it to 35k) go through his fingers, i still felt absolutely crushed for him (and his fiance) and he didn't deserve that 1p win AT ALL!!!. And the way that noel says "That's it, it's over" after the 35k went makes me cringe. Sorry 4 that loss Matty :-(

I dunno if that was really THE biggest crash ever, if it was, Tony took his record yesterday after turning down 40,000 and winning just 50p (Ouch!)

What about Khanny who played on 20th September 2006. He was offered £48,000 at 8 box when he had 250k, 100k, 75k along with two small reds(10k and 5k) and 3 blues. He then took out 250k and 100k in the next 3 boxes of the 5th round and his offer crashed to £12,048. Then in the last round he took out 75k along with the 10k and was left with £5 and £5,000 and got an offer of £2,400. He then went on and swapped his box and won £5,000. That for me is the biggest crash in the history of DOND. You can actually see his game on this site.

well i think it's contentious as 2 who had THE biggest crash of all time - khanny did indeed lose more money than tony and matty, but tony fell from £40k to less than £1, and matty totally annihilated his board

I really, really did feel sorry for Matty. I thought he was a really nice, supportive, likeable guy who did nothing wrong: he just had the game from Hell. I cannot understand how you James can find this so fun to watch: heartless you appear to be!

Matty, you are in the deal or no deal hall of fame for two reasons 1. Becoming the 16th member of the 1p club. 2. The biggest crash on deal or no deal.
